Chay Blyth and John Ridgway were not the first people to row across the Atlantic. They were beaten by 70 years, by the Norwegian–born Americans George Harbo and Frank (Gabriel) Samuelson. In crossing from New York to Scilly, then to Le Havre, in 1896, Harbo and Samuelson became the first people to row across any ocean.
